Federico García Cortizas is not just any landscape artist, not even a passive or a contemplative one. His world is rough, sensitive, complex, and full of obstacles and entangled roots, which draw an immense net of intertwined forms. His art makes us contemplate the dark world of our minds, prodding unexplored cavities of gloomy, intricate forests and obstructed by lines that often block out the light. However, life exists and the beauty of nature takes human form. This lattice of branches is transfigured in arteries, veins or perhaps neuronal connections. His love and passion for nature make him a unique, sensitive fighter and a critic of the monstrous limitless chopping that without any planning extinguishes the life of the old trees throughout the city. As a memory of a truncated life, he brings tree trunks to his house and transforms them into totems, to be sculpted in the future as a logical reason for existence. Thus, the trees have not died — they live on in his pieces, whispering their presence.
